In 2013, the African Street Style Festival (ASSF) was created, and delivered by SIMPLICIOUS, an emerging London based organization, delivering a program of events, projects and activities.
The simple objective behind the festival was to provide a unique, open, street-based platform to highlight and celebrate the influence of African creativity in London.
ASSF wanted to achieve this through welcoming emerging and established artists to share their talents in photography, public/visual art, music, fashion, film, and live performance.
Since 2013, the festival has taken place at Shoreditch, in particular Calvert Avenue and Arnold Circus, which has a wonderful history of hosting creatives from across the African diaspora, acknowledges and pays respect to the past, current and future creatives who embrace African culture within their work.
At this year’s festival, SOBOYE once again presented a fabulous fashion visual experience which included a fashion shoot and fantastic fashion show. With influences will be taken from African tribes and it’s rich culture, SOBOYE payed tribute to African culture and heritage.
He showed the evolution of African history and how it merges with European/western cuts and design.
Soboye is a brand which has become synonymous with wearable, Afropolitan, cutting edge street style.
Chi-Chi Chinakwe was the wardrobe stylist for the fashion show and the entire SOBOYE event show was produced by creative director Sam ‘MamaSam’ Davis.
The festival is still growing, and we will pursue the aim to establish an outstanding event that combines fun, style, and creativity with African culture and fashion.
